July 17 - Good programs bear repeating. Our program today was Steve Jeck, “Rock Solid Success”. Steve spoke to us last year and everyone enjoyed him so we invited him to return this year. Steve uses rocks (very heavy rocks) to demonstrate his message. Steve says the brain retains 5% of what it hears and 90% of what it sees so a visual motivation is better. Steve lifted one rock with his head to emphasize using your head to achieve your goals. Most people don’t achieve their goals because they never set goals. You must have a fixed purpose to get your dream off the ground. He next lifted a rock with his shoulder. You must shoulder responsibility. Knowledge is only potential power. Most people know what to do, they just don’t do it. You must act on what you know. Lastly, Steve lifted both rocks at the same time, one in each hand. You have to grab hold of your dream and not let go. Nothing takes the place of persistence, not knowledge, brains, nor education. Thank you Steve for an excellent program. July 24 - Today was another great program. Alan York, play-by-play announcer for the Winston-Salem Warthogs was our speaker today. Alan talked about how he arrived at his position and gave an update on the Warthogs. This program was very timely in that our first Family of Rotary outing will be at a Warthog’s baseball game on Friday, August 8. District 7690 Theme 2003-2004: “Lend A Hand” ANNOUNCEMENTS, NEWS & INFORMATION: Thanks to Stratford Rotary: Dear Stratford Rotary Club; I want to express our appreciation for your generous gift of $1300 to the Summer Art Honors scholarship program. Due to economic difficulties, many students would not have been able to participate in such a wonderful program without support from organizations such as yours. Your contribution helped us to make it possible to grant financial assistance to twenty artistically gifted applicants. Sincerely, Happy
