18 - Our speaker today was Reid Lawrence, Executive Director of the
Housing Authority. The Housing Authority was created by the city but is
not an entity of the city. The Housing Authority is the city’s largest
landlord. Mr. Lawrence talked about the rebuilding of Happy Hills and
Kimberly Park housing developments. They are now mixed income communities.
The goal of the Authority for residents is, “in, up and out.”
Anyone wanting to live in one of these communities has to participate
in a program that teaches them to become more productive citizens which
creates better lives, better jobs and better families. The Authority raises
funds to send residents to schools and it awards 34 scholarships a year.

25 - P.J. Lannihan from Nature’s Select brought us a humorous
but also informative talk today on how to care for our lawns. He discussed
ways to control Bermuda grass, how to kill weeds, the different types
of grass seed, and the best time and proper way to fertilize our lawns.
Thank you Mr. Lanihan for very interesting talk.
