PROGRAM FEATURES...

October 2 - District Governor Bob Newton visited us today. He brought greetings from the District and Rotary International. District Governor Newton congratulated President Loy McGill and the Board for doing the best planning job in the district. He was most impressed with our plans for the year.

Governor Newton spoke about the international opportunity for starting a new club in Ungheni, Moldova, a sister city to the City of Winston-Salem. District Governor Newton said he would make a return trip to Ungheni in February to assist in starting the new club there and welcomed any support we might want to offer.

He then talked about the Rules of Membership. The number one rule is to take care of the present members. Increasing membership is an individual effort (one-on-one). Do for someone else what someone did for you.

Our theme for this year in Rotary is “Lend A Hand”. We must address hunger, health and poverty at home as well as abroad.

Governor Newton talked about Group Study Exchange in Mexico this year. They need young professional non-Rotary members in medicine, law enforcement, social services, and teaching to participate. He talked about the Rotary Foundation as the source of funding for many programs including, but not limited to the group study exchange program, ambassadorial scholars and others. The need for every member to contribute $100 per year to the Foundation is important for the furtherance of those programs.

October 9 - Thanks to Walt Gravin of Leadership i2i for bringing us a very interesting program today. Leadership i2i has one purpose: to team with companies to develop leaders throughout their organizations using three key ingredients. By the close of the workshop, participants can: understand their leadership strengths and weaknesses; apply the practices; challenge the status quo to spark innovation; build collaboration, teamwork, trust; and encourage others to excel and work together as a successful team.
