Dear Stratford Rotary,
I appreciated so very much the beautiful flower arrangement you sent to the hospital (Loy took the flower arrangement from the District Governor’s visit to Jenny). My, how it brightened my room! Foundation News:
November is Rotary Foundation Month. The 2003 Rotary Foundation Banquet is November 6, 2003 at High Point Country Club. Stratford Rotary will pay the cost for any member that wants to attend. The reservation deadline is October 30. Please let Margaret know as soon as possible if you wish to attend. President Loy McGill, President Elect Charlie Chatham, Ed Robbins, Tom Eshelman, Bobby Sprinkle, and Gerry Malmo are planning to attend.

PROGRAM FEATURES...

October 16 - Our speaker today was Dr. Andrew Schneider, a Plastic Surgeon with Forsyth Plastic Surgery. Dr. Schneider, originally from Richmond, VA, earned degrees from Princeton and the Medical College of Virginia , then completed his residency at Wake Forest, receiving board certification in general and plastic surgery. He has been at Forsyth Plastic Surgery for more than 4 years and does all types of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Schneider talked about the different types of surgery he performs. He does 40% cosmetic surgery and 60% reconstructive surgery. Dr. Schneider also talked about his mission trip to India. He and the other members of the medical team performed thousands of surgeries on cleft palates and cleft lips. These disfigurements are very common in India and cause people not be able to get employment. His team also worked with other doctors such as pediatricians and dentists assisting them with the program Operation Smile. This program is sponsored by Rotary International. Thank you Dr. Schneider for a great talk and all your caring, compassion, and wonderful work.

October 23 - Mike McCandless, husband of our own Mary McCandless, spoke to us today on a very important topic, “Safe Computing at Home”. Mike explained the differences between a virus and a worm and how to protect ourselves against them. Viruses knock and we open the door and let them in. A worm looks for an open door and lets itself in. Most viruses are received through e-mails. Mike listed the six ways to help protect our computers. They are as follows: Install, Update and Run Virus Software regularly; Renew license yearly; Install a Personal Fire Wall; Protect your Wireless Network; Protect and Change your passwords regularly; Install Windows Updates regularly; and Be Careful with Attachments in e-mails. Thank you Mike for a great talk and helpful information.
