To Remember: PROGRAM FEATURES............ May 21 - What a great time we had. Over 100 Stratford and Reynolda Rotarians and their families enjoyed the exhibits, games, animals, and planetarium presentation and a fantastic meal at our Family of Rotary event at SciWorks. Thanks to Scott Krewson, Loy McGill and Debbie Cesta for planning such a wonderful event. Thanks to all who attended for their support of Stratford Rotary and the events we plan. Also, thanks to everyone who brought school supplies with them for the book bag program. How rewarding it will be to present well stocked book bags to 28 equity plus rising middle school students. Stratford Rotary finished buying the supplies needed to fill the book bags. You can still make a monetary donation to the program. May 28 - Richard Gottlieb, President and CEO of Senior Services, brought us a very interesting talk today. Richard gave us some staggering statistics about the growing number of senior citizens over the age of 65. He talked briefly about the different services offered by Senior Services but focused on Meals on Wheels. It is sad to realize how many lonely seniors are just sitting by the door waiting for a meal and a conversation with another person. Some of these citizens never speak to another person for days. Thank you Richard for what you and your volunteers do for our elderly. June 1 - In a joint meeting with Winston-Salem Rotary, Ken Thompson, President and CEO of Wachovia Corp., who was recently recognized by Business Week magazine as one of the top bank presidents in the nation, gave a very uplifting and optimistic presentation to area Rotarians and guests focusing his talk on three areas: Wachovia; Winston-Salem; and the North Carolina economy. In NC, the last two decades have seen a decline in core industries such as textiles, tobacco, and furniture, and net earnings were up 20% over the past year. Wachovia continues its strong performance since the merger, and the last seven quarters have yielded an average of 19% increase in earnings each quarter. Return to shareholders has increased 86%. Wachovia continues its balanced business model which includes four major areas: General Banking; Capital Management; Wealth Management; and Corporate and Investment Banking. The focus will continue to be on products, distribution of those products, and service. Ken reaffirmed Wachovia’s commitment to the Winston-Salem community as evidenced by their gift of $1.0 million to Winston-Salem State University. ROTARY

MAKEUPS:
BOARD MEETING FOR OLD AND NEW BOARD MEMBERS THURSDAY, JUNE 3 AT 12:30. WE WILL HAVE LUNCH IN THE FAMILY GRILL AT FORSYTH COUNTRY CLUB . PLEASE COME AND BRING YOUR BLUE NOTEBOOK FOR MARGARET TO REVISE FOR NEXT YEAR. As
we rapidly approach the end of another Rotary year, please keep a few
things in mind. Please settle all accounts as soon as possible.
It makes bookkeeping much easier for the start of the new year. We need
to get all benevolence funds in so that we can pay out our scholarships,
enrichment programs, and Foundation contributions. Remember, Rotary year
ends June 30. Dear
Fellow Rotarians: The cruise will be aboard Celebrity Cruise lines. We will depart the Triad area via motor coach for a short trip to Norfolk, VA on September 25, where we will embark on the beautiful Horizon for a seven-day cruise to Bermuda. We’ll stop in St. George and Hamilton, with plenty of time for sightseeing, shopping, golf, or whatever suits your fancy. We will return to the Triad area via motor coach on October 2. Exact locations for Triad area motor coach departure and return will be defined later once we see where the bulk of travelers will be coming from. It is not our intention to use one central departure and return point. There are two key aspects to this cruise that deserve special mention. First, attendance with us on this cruise will raise funds for your Rotary Club. Each cruise ticket represents a $50.00 donation to your club and in addition the cruise line will donate $675.00 for every 15 people, over the minimum of 60, that attend. Time
is of the essence, slots are going fast and the deadline to sign up is
June 4.
