ANNOUNCEMENTS,
NEWS & INFORMATION................
PROGRAM FEATURES...........
June 10 - Today, John Haus, UNC Chapel Hill Men’s Lacrosse
Coach, brought us a very interesting talk and video about the sport of
lacrosse. Lacrosse is an unsung sport which was first played by the Indians.
The “stick” is the most important piece of equipment in this
sport. You may not hit or trip with the stick. Lacrosse is a fast paced
sport with a lot of contact, penalties, and injuries. Some shots have
been clocked at 100 mph. Lacrosse has primarily been played in the north
but is growing rapidly in the south. Coach Haus gave us some great statistics
on the UNC team. Thank you Coach Haus for a great program. Thanks to Gerry
Malmo for securing this program.

17 - About our program today, well, you really had to be there! Paula
Stump, International Master and Teacher of Middle Eastern Dance and some
of her advanced students brought us a very entertaining visual program
today. Paula and her students demonstrated the art of belly dancing. There
is really nothing that I can tell you except that belly dancing is the
oldest form of dance and Paula and her students are very good at what
they do. It is quite an art and I think everyone thoroughly enjoyed the
demonstration. Thanks to Gary Fleming for bringing us this fascinating
program.

24 - What normally is a Spring Social became a Summer Social this
year. We had our social this evening at Forsyth Country Club. Everything
was superb from the comaraderie to the food to the atmosphere. Thanks
to the hard work of Kathy Acton, the room looked spectacular with wonderful
table decorations of magnolias and bags of sugar. Thank you to
everyone who brought canned goods. All of the sugar and canned goods were
taken to The Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina. The bar was set up
on the balcony and everyone enjoyed socializing. We enjoyed a delicious
meal and comments by President Loy McGill regarding the club’s accomplishments
this year. Stratford Rotary deserves a pat on the back for the success
of many new initiatives this year. President Loy’s dedication and
determination is largely responsible for the success of these initiatives,
but it takes everyone to make it happen. Two of our hardworking members
were recognized with Paul Harris Fellow Awards. The New Member Service
Award went to Chris Douglas for her hard work in planning and executing
a successful Holiday Social and Silent Auction. Scott Krewson received
the Outstanding Service Award for agreeing to start a new venture
called The Family of Rotary. His tireless efforts in planning several
family oriented events earned him this recognition. Thank you to everyone
who made this night and the year a total success.
