2 - District Governor Don Allred made his visit to our Club today. After
meeting with the Board and updating them on upcoming Rotary events, Governor
Allred spoke to the Club. The first thing he did was to congratulate Past
President Loy McGill on a great year and presented her with a Presidential
Citation. Governor Allred then presented his program, "Four Elements of an
Effective Rotary Club." This program was a reminder to each of us of the 4 areas
of Rotary: (1) Object of Rotary; (2) Four Avenues of Service [ Club Srvice,
Vocational Service, Community Service, and International Service]: (3) Four
Elements of an Effective Rotary Club [Membership, Service, The Rotary
Foundation, & Leadership]; (4) The Four-Way Test. He quoted, "True success
is what you do for other." He told Stratford Rotary service above self is about
getting the job done and we are definitely getting the job done. Thank you
Governor Allred for a very upbeat and enjoyable talk.

9 - Our speaker today was Anita Ogburn, Executive director of the Ronald
McDonald House and wife of our Tom Ogburn. When a child is diagnosed with a life
threatening illness, the entire family is faced with overwhelming emotional,
financial, and physical burdens. Unfamiliar treatment procedures, medical
expenses, and uncertainty become part of daily life. The Ronald McDonald House
of W-S provides temporary lodging for families from outside the community whose
children are receiving medical treatment at local medical facilities. Cheerful
bedrooms, recreation areas indoors and out, and a kitchen stocked with food for
all provide for the physical needs of the guests. A caring staff and the Family
Assistance Program offer emotional support, education resources, and referral
services to help the family adjust to the child's illness. The Ronald McDonald
House Family Room, located in Brenner Children's Hospital, extends the services
offered at the House by providing a place for parents to take a break from the
bedside of the hospitalized child. Visitors to the Family room can enjoy a snack
in the kitchen, relax in one of the seating areas, or use the computers to keep
in touch with family and friends. Anita and Tom experienced this same trauma 24
years ago and a kind woman opened her home to Anita to stay in when Tom had to
leave and come home. When this shining beacon of the golden heart of our
community was started 20 years later, Anita knew she wanted to be a part of it
and she has been there ever since helping others through their difficult
time.
