PROGRAM FEATURES............

September 8 – Our speaker today was Andre Jeanjean. French born in September 1929, Andre studied at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commercials in Paris, was Commander in the French Navy, studied Law, was judge then President of the Tribunal de Comerce des Hauts de Seine (second largest in France) from 1980 to 1991. Mr. Jeanjean recently retired as chairman of an insurance brokerage firm. He has been a Rotarian since 1994. Mr. Jeanjean started a matching grant with a club in Yaounde in 2002 to start a fish and poultry farm in Monatele (a prison). They had a grant from the Foundation and his club gave $5,000 totaling $10,000 to work with. While in Cameroon, he visited other prisons, particularly that of Bueia. The head of the prison only receives 15 US cents a day per prisoner for food. There are 426 prisoners in that prison. One must know that you can be in jail if you steal a banana at a market or if your relatives charge you with being a witch, which is an easy way of getting rid of extra mouths to feed. Mr. Jeanjean is hoping to get a matching grant to help that prison. Thank you Mr. Jeanjean for being with us today.

September 15 – Dr. Gary Green, President Forsyth Community College brought us a very interesting and informative talk today. Dr. Green gave us an update on what is happening with the college. The capital campaign will aid in the construction of a new 55,000-sq. ft. facility in the Piedmont Triad Research Park and expand their biotechnology, nanotechnology, digital design and supercomputing programs. As the facilities and offerings at Forsyth Tech improve, so will the surrounding communities, including where you live and work. Through advanced areas of biotechnology, nanotechnology, digital design, supercomputing and more, Forsyth Tech is equipping the community with a stronger workforce that is attracting some of the top companies to the area. With our support, they can continue to improve their facilities to better educate. As our stronger workforce attracts new companies, our economy thrives and our cultural, economic, technological and municipal elements make our community begin to evolve and improve. Thank you Dr. Green for your talk and all that you do to help educate the young and old which in turn helps our communities.
