A TIME FOR THANKS AND GIVING………
We will be collecting food again this year for the Second Harvest Food Bank. The Second Harvest Food Bank provides food to people in need through emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, rescue missions, battered women’s ahelters, etc., and also to feeding programs such as Meals on Wheels.
Most needed items: high protein foods such as tuna, canned meats, peanut butter, dried/canned beans. Vegetables including canned vegetables, soups, tomato sauce and paste, spaghetti sauce, tomato juice. Fruits such as canned sliced fruit, fruit cups, fruit juices, dried fruits. Pasta and grains including macaroni and cheese, boxed pastas and rice, cereal and cereal bars, pancake and biscuit mix. Please bring your donations to our November 17 meeting.

WHY YOUR BENEVOLENCE GIVING IS SO IMPORTANT………
Everyone will be receiving a personalized letter soon from President Bobby Sprinkle and Ed Robbins, Chairman of our Rotary Foundation Committee, giving everyone an update on where they stand with the Foundation regarding their contributions. The letter will also explain why giving to our local benevolence and the Foundation is so important. You will be given opportunities and choices as to how you would like to give. The goal for our Club this year is 100% participation in our giving. Our dollars do make a difference whether they stay at home or go abroad.

ABOUT OUR MEMBERS…….
Congratulations to Susan Raymer for being named Minority Business Owner of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. Susan just talked to us about her business, At Your Service, during her classification talk last week.

We also congratulate Bob Kulp on being invited to play in the Carolinas/Virginia golf Tournament. Only a select few are chosen for this team.

Ed Robbins and Charlie Chatham are both going to find out what it will be like to be a father-in-law. Charlie’s son was married two weeks ago (Charlie forgot to tell me his son’s name). Big Ed will be the best man for his son, Edward Robbins, Jr., this Saturday, October 29, 2005 in Chicago. Congratulations to both families.

PROGRAM FEATURES............

October 13 – Our speaker today was Betsy Gatewood. Betsy talked about the Entrepreneurship and Liberal Arts Program at WFU. The goals of liberal arts education are the same skills needed for entrepreneurship. When the connection between the two studies was discovered, students were encouraged to take their resources and skills and identify and pursue a change, thus Wake Forest has started a 5th year program for students that fit the profile. Betsy brought one of her students with her who talked more about the program.

October 20 – Bill Harrison of Aduk, Inc. was our speaker today. Mr. Harrisongraduated from WFU with a degree in religion with a concentration in Islam. He spent 6 years in the middle east as a missionary. Mr. Harrison described Islam as the most aggressive religion with world domination as its goal. Islamics believe when something or someone is obtained through Islam it will always belong to Islam. It was interesting and frightening to learn about Islam and what they believe and the extremes they will go to to further their beliefs.
