ANNOUNCEMENTS, NEWS & INFORMATION................

DATES TO REMEMBER:
July 6 – Passing of the Gavel
July 20 – Board Meeting
Incoming President Jay Luke will be out of town on June 29 so there will not be a Board Meeting. He has set the regular Board Meetings to be the 3rd Thursday of each month unless otherwise notified. His first Board Meeting will be Thursday, July 20, 2006. He looks forward to seeing everyone there.

It was so wonderful to see Jim Hewett back with us today. Jim has been experiencing some serious health problems. Continue to remember him in your thoughts and prayers as he continues to battle these problems.

Thank you for your help.....the Bookbag Program was a great success. Susan Raymer and Veronica Black went to Kimberly Park Elementary School and presented the bookbags to the graduating 5th graders. The children and their parents were very grateful. The Teacher of the Year, Teressa Beam, was presented with a $100 check for herself and a $400 for books for the school library.

PROGRAM FEATURES............

June 1 – Gayle Anderson, President of the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce spoke to us today. She took us on a walk through the history of Winston-Salem and how we have evolved, with the help of a small group of committed leaders, from industry to technology. Some doubted that Winston-Salem could ever reach the point that we have and still don’t believe we can grow and go further. Gayle’s philosophy is “this train is moving on, get on board or get out of the way”.

June 8 – Dr. Dan Hooker, Head of UNC Sports Medicine, was our speaker today. Dr. Hooker described how the care of college athletes has changed. They not only treat injuries, they treat the whole athlete and watch for underlying problems that could potentially kill an athlete. The Sports Medicine Department supervises health problems, guides wellness programs and reports to doctors about the athletes.

June 15 – Bill Cole, ACC reporter for the Winston-Salem Journal, entertained us with stories of covering ACC games. He also gave us some facts then opened the program for questions and answers.
