PROGRAM FEATURES............
July 6 – Today Bobby Sprinkle thanked Stratford Rotary for a great year. He had one goal for the Club last year and we succeeded at it. Stratford Rotary became a 100% Paul Harris Club this year. We gave four $2,500 scholarships this year. We also continued our book bag program for Kimberly Park Elementary School as well as honoring their Teacher of the Year by donating $400 to the Library to buy books in her name and we also presented her with a check for $100. When Bobby was through he passed the gavel to incoming President Jay Luke. Jay thanked Bobby for the great job he did this year and presented him with his Past President’s Pin and a Rosewood Desk Box engraved with his name and his year of service on it. Jay then thanked the outgoing Board for their service this year. Jay’s goals this year are to try and improve attendance and to continue to support the Rotary Foundation. He will give us bits of information each week on why it is important to support the Foundation and to keep us informed of the great wok they do with our contributions. After Bobby and Jay were through, we had a delightful young man say a few words to us. Alexandru Sinca is a 17year old Romanian student attending the Ben Franklin Institute in International Communications currently holding classes at Wake Forest University. He received a Letter of Recommendation from the President of Romania to participate in this program. He is also a Young Rotarian in Romania. Alexandru learned English, which he speaks very well, by watching Cartoon Network. His favorite cartoon is Yogi Bear. He promotes transatlantic communication between youth.

July 13 – Our own Jerry Herman spoke to us today about “YMCA International”. Jerry has been with the YMCA for thirty years. He showed us pictures of his trip to the Ukraine in August 2005. He took 7 teens and other leaders to the Ukraine for a conference on teen building values. They visited the difference YMCAs there. They have the traditional programs there. Most of their time was spent in Kiev. He talked about how friendly the people were especially the young people. The city is very clean and safe. The young people there speak several languages and they want to sit and talk and learn. This August, 7 teens and 2 leaders are coming here from the Ukraine. Thank you Jerry for a great program.
