PROGRAM FEATURES............

February 8 – Our speakers today gave a very moving talk about a very special program. Beth Henesly, Community Relations Director of Carolina Donor Services told us a little about donating your organs after you die. When you donate your organs you are actually donating LIFE to someone. Beth brought with her today Jan Brihill who talked about her experiences with organ donations. Jan’s mother received a kidney, which literally saved her life. She watched the miracle transform her mother into a vital person again. Sometime later, Jan met the love of her life and they were married. After being married only three months, Jan received a phone call that her husband had been in an accident. When she arrived at the hospital she learned that he would not recover. Because of Jan’s gratitude for the organ her mother had received, Jan and her husband were both organ donors. Her husband lives on in several people who received his organs. He gave in life and gave in death. What a legacy this is and we can do it also. Even if you are listed on your driver’s license as an organ donor, family members can override this. Everyone needs to contact Carolina Donor Services and fill our a Family Notification Card which will be sent to your family while you are living, then they know and this card cannot be overridden.

February 15 – Today was double pleasure with special guests and a great speaker. We welcomed 15 spouses and guests to our Valentine Luncheon. Our guests were treated to red carnations and a chocolate rose. Our speaker today was Bev Sanford, Executive Director SciWorks. Bev gave us a brief history of SciWorks and then talked about “SciVision, Beyond the Horizon”. The vision is to be the preeminent science education center in North Carolina. The mission of SciWorks is to promote scientific literacy, life-long learning and an appreciation of the sciences by providing innovative educational and recreational experiences for all people through interactive programs and exhibits, collections, an environmental park and unique facilities.
