PROGRAM FEATURES............
Talk about programs! If you haven’t been to a meeting lately or left early, you have missed some great programs.

February 22 Sandra Adams, Headmaster, Summit School talked to us about “Challenges in
Education”. She said the greatest challenge in education today is “Who is going to teach our children tomorrow?” Children today are choosing their futures based on money. Which jobs pay the most.. A teacher’s salary is definitely not a lure. More teachers are retiring than are coming into the field

March 1 – Lenna Hobson, RagApple Lassie Vineyards owner fascinated us with her talk about the wine industry. Lenna and her husband farm 500 acres in Booneville. The farm has passed through 3 generations. Lenna and her husband decided with the decline in farming and the loss of tobacco, they would look for another way to keep the land equitable. In the spring of 2000 the first vines were put in the ground and by September 2002 they had 30 acres of grapes. They have 10 varities of grapes. They have a lady winemaker with 30 years of experience. It cost approximately $1,500 per acre to maintain. There are now 16 wineries in the Yadkin Valley.

March 8 – We had another fascinating speaker today. Walter Turner, Historian, N.C. Transportation Museum talked to us today about the history of our interstates. It was quite interesting to see how it all began and the engineering feats it took.
