ANNOUNCEMENTS, NEWS & INFORMATION................

YOUR BOARD has approved a new member. Please check your mailed or emailed bulletin and notify the President in writing if you have any objection.

IT’S ALMOST GRADUATION TIME………We are continuing our Book Bag Program for Kimberly Park Elementary School this year. Below is a list of school supplies that are needed for each bag. We will be filling 32 bags this year. Each bag will have all the supplies listed so we need 32 sets. Please bring as many of these supplies as you can. The book bags will be presented to the graduating fifth graders who will be moving to middle school.

The items needed are: 1” 3-ring binder, tab dividers (pack of 5), compass, protractor, calculator with fractions, ruler, pack of notebook paper, markers, colored pencils, glue sticks (2 each), pencil pouch with zipper, pack of #2 pencils, 2-pocket folders (4 each), and small packs of Kleenex.

This is such a worthwhile project so please step forward and help fill the book bags. Last year we fell very short of the needed supplies and had to go out and buy them. This is a Club project so please help by bringing supplies for the next three weeks. Susan Raymer will take the supplies and fill the book bags. If anyone wants a rewarding few hours, you ought to go with us to Kimberly Park Elementary School and participate in presenting these bags to the children. Let Susan Raymer or Margaret know if you would like to go. The presentation date is June 6, 2007 at 1:00.

We also have a Teacher of the Year presentation on June 7, 2007 at 10:00 if you would like to attend.

PROGRAM FEATURES............
The quality of the programs we have had for the past few weeks has been unbelievable. Andrew Rogers , Executive director of the RiverRun International Film Festival gave us a small look at the exciting things happening in their world and we marveled at their accomplishments.

NCSA’s John Maucheri, Chancellor and Director Gerald Freedman, Dean of Drama and a few of the cast members dazzled us as they gave us a taste of what was to come in their production of “West Side Story”. They were given a standing ovation for their talents.

LIsbeth Evans, Secretary of the NC Cultural Resources and wife of our own Jim Lambie, gave us a taste of cultural by sharing the history of the arts in North Carolina.

Felice Brenner and Selene Johnson, ABC of NC Child Development Center, a new school for children with autism, touched our hearts today with stories in pictures of autistic children and the quality of life they can have with the proper care and instruction.

A NOTE FROM MARGARET….
. All of us lead very busy lives and sometimes we get overwhelmed with life and all of its responsibilities and some of our favorite things in life suffer. I have had several busy weeks with my mother and I apologize for being lax with the bulletin.

I know that the members of Stratford Rotary are very busy business people but everyone has to eat lunch somewhere on Thursday.

Life is a series of choices and decisions but I hope you, the members, will continue to choose Stratford Rotary as one of your good life experiences. Unfortunately our attendance is not reflecting that. Stratford Rotary has experienced the worst attendance in the past few months that it has in the fifteen years I have been here and it was nevermore obvious than last Thursday evening. We currently have 129 members including our honorary members. We had a total of 29 people to sign up for our Spring Social but we decided to have it anyway because the food had already been purchased and sometimes people who have not signed up show up anyway. In reality, the opposite happened. Of the 29 people signed up, only 14 people in total (including me and my husband) attended. It was quite embarrassing to have such a fantastic meal (thanks to Loy McGill) and a gracious wait staff show up for such a small group. We had a great time of intimate fellowship so those of you that were not there were the losers. I realize that there were several events happening that night, but it just seems that Stratford Rotary has been the loser lately when it comes to making choices of what we do and I am including the lunch meetings on a weekly basis. The things that mean the most are the things we are excited about and involved with.

I may be out of line with this note but my heart has been heavy with the lack of enthusiasm I have seen from Stratford Rotary members when your leaders and programs getters have been hard at work to keep it a good club.

We are getting ready to start a new year July 1, 2007. Let’s make a commitment to make 2007-2008 a better year for attendance and involvement.
