Rotary Board News

YOUR BOARD MET TODAY AND APPROVED A PERSON FOR MEMBERSHIP IN STRATFORD ROTARY CLUB: Please check your mailed or emailed newsletter for this information.

The Board also welcomes back former member David Ahles. David originally joined Stratford Rotary in November 1990. Due to business constraints he resigned in good standing in 1999. David expressed a desire to return to Stratford Rotary and it was approved. Welcome back David. The Board also voted to accept Tony Potter as a transfer from Reynolda Rotary. Tony is a member in good standing in Reynolda Rotary and is also a Paul Harris Fellow, but he has developed permanent business conflicts on Fridays. Our member, Larry McGee, has brought Tony to several meetings and President Jeff Clark talked with Reynolda President Mark Thompson and they both approved the transfer. Welcome Tony Potter to Stratford Rotary.

HAVE YOU BEEN MISSING A FEW MEMBERS?????.....The following members have resigned in the past 6 months due to business conflicts: Tom Anderson, Bob Beach, Tom Cannon, Scott Cawood, Melissa Combes, Mary Ann Lawrence, Vicky Leonard, Tom Moore, Ben Willis, Dee wood, and Lu Anne Wood. Health reasons forced Jim Yates to resign but the Board voted to make him an Honorary Member in honor of his Past Presidency.

We have also been missing Doug Leckie. Doug is the last active Charter Member. Doug has been having health problems and was at Brookridge but has now moved to Arbor Acres. Give him a call, send him a card or go visit him, he would love to hear from him. I talked to him last week and he sounded much better.

PROGRAM FEATURES............

January 24 – Jeb Macosko, Physics Professor at WFU, talked to us today about cutting edge research on “Life’s Nano Machines, Subcellular Robots Built from DNA Blueprints”. Dr. Macosko showed us a slide presentation of these little robots we have inside our cells. He called the transportation system in the cells as railroads with little molecular machines carrying things around. There are also walking machines that move small things from one place to another. He talked about DNA and growth hormones and thing inside that act as copying machines to copy DNA. Dr. Macosko’s talk and slides were very fascinating to hear and see but hard for me to describe.

ROTARY FOUR WAY TEST:

Of the things we thing, say, and do…
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
