ANNOUNCEMENTS, NEWS & INFORMATION................
Another opportunity……to get involved. As you know, we will be having our Rotary lunch meeting at Kimberly Park on Thursday, April 24. That evening is their spring Book Fair and we need volunteers to staff the event. The time commitment is 6pm – 7:30pm at the school. We had about 15 volunteers in the fall and could use the same number again on the 24th.

This book fair will be a similar set up to the literacy night/book fair last fall, except it will be math night/book fair. Parents/students will travel from station to station in the building playing math games. Volunteers will either staff the book fair which includes putting books back in place, helping with the checkout process, etc., or they will assist the students in one of the stations playing math games.

This was a lot of fun in the fall. If you are available to volunteer please let Susan Raymer (774-8790) know by Friday, April 18.

APRIL is MAGAZINE MONTH…

In this world of immediate information through the internet, e-mails, blogs, and cell phones,
the very idea of celebrating Magazine Month sounds somewhat old-fashioned. Although information about Rotary Foundation programs is immediately available at www.rotary.org your Rotary magazine is still the best place to read in-depth accounts of the Foundation’s remarkable work around the world. In fact, the many pamphlets, guides, and request forms available from The Rotary Foundation continue to play a major role. When recognizing our magazines and other printed materials, let’s not forget that the timeliest way to get information is on our Web site. Our Web site is indeed essential today, so let’s include it in our celebration of Magazine Month.

DISTRICT ASSEMBLY….at GTCC, Jamestown Campus, Percy H. Sears Applied Technology Center, Building 17 at the back of the campus on May 9, 2008. Registration begins at 8 a.m. This is an opportunity for the club leadership to learn about RI and District Goals and to plan for 2008-2009. All members are invited to attend, but the Club Officers and Committee Chair Persons are really encouraged to attend.

We offer deepest sympathy to our own Morris Friedman on the death of his mother. You are in our thoughts and prayers, Morris.

PROGRAM FEATURES

March 27 – Today we had a real treat. The Kimberly Park Step Team performed for us today. Two groups, one of girls and one of boys, performed rhythmic stepping. These girls and boys have given their time and dedication to learning to do this. By participating in this program, they are also saying that they want to improve their discipline. We all applaud the teachers who have talked the time to work with these children and President Jeff recognized Principal Sheila Goram. Ms Goram will be leaving Kimberly Park to go to a new school in Charlotte. On behalf of Stratford Rotary, Jeff presented Ms Goram with a token of our appreciation for all she has done to help us get involved with Kimberly Park.

April 3 – Our program today way Rick Steinbachner, Associate AD, UNC, Director of Sports Marketing, and former UNC player. Mr. Steinbachner gave a great program today (in keeping with Pat Crowley). He was informative, funny, and entertaining. He is proud of his Carolina blood and proud to market Carolina. He talked about all the athletic programs Carolina has and how they have all been successful. Mr. Steinbachner described the renovations taking place at Carolina. Following his talk he answered questions from the members. Thank you Mr. Steinbachner for a great talk.

THERE WILL NOT BE A BOARD MEETING ON 4-17-08!

ROTARY FOUR WAY TEST:

Of the things we thing, say, and do…
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
