Programs……

June 5 – Anita Ogburn, wife of our own Tom Ogburn, and Director of the Ronald McDonald House, spoke to us today. She brought us the message that the Ronald McDonald House of Winston-Salem is much more than a place to sleep and eat. In addition to warm beds and nourishing home-cooked meals, the House also offers places for recreation and reflection, and the support of a caring, professional staff. Providing families in crisis a vital service since 1984, without requirement of payment, the Ronald McDonald House lessens the economic and emotional upheaval of an extended relocation to an unfamiliar city while caring for a sick child. Anita lived the experience of being away from home with a seriously ill child, so she understands the importance of the comfort and support that the Ronald McDonald House provides. The House currently has 10 bedrooms and they have to turn away families in need. To help more families, the Ronald McDonald House hopes to build a 14 bedroom addition on adjacent property. Also, for nursery families at Forsyth Medical Center, the House plans to open a Ronald McDonald House Family Room in the Sara Lee Center for Women’s Health.

June 12 – Today we had a return visit from one of our favorite speakers, Clinton Parker, Bee Expert. Mr. Parker entertains us as well as informs us of the importance of bees and their venom. Mr. Parker had cancer and was told he had three weeks to live. He figured he had nothing to lose so he started letting his bees sting him to numb the pain. What he didn’t know at the time was that the bee venom was healing the cancer. After three weeks he was still alive and doing better so he continued the stinging. After several months he called his doctors who were stunned that he was still alive. He went in and had tests and found he was cancer free and has remained cancer free since 1992.

ROTARY FOUR WAY TEST:

Of the things we thing, say, and do…
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
