Programs……

June 19 – President Jeff Clark thanked everyone who helped make this year a great one. We stepped up to the plate with Kimberly Park and created a great partnership. We had great programs and a fantastic Holiday Social at the home of Linda and Dave Combs. After his words to the Club, Jeff passed the gavel to President Elect Ellen Coble. After receiving the gavel, Ellen presented Jeff with his Past President’s pin and an engraved desk box.

We also had Sylvia Oberle, Director Habitat for Humanity, speak to us today. She talked about how Habitat began in 1976. It came to Winston-Salem in 1985 and since that time Habitat just started its 270th house. The organization in rooted in Christian Principals, and has volunteers of all faiths. Contrary to what some people think, families do not get the house free, it is a partnership with the family and they have a 20 year mortgage. Habitat works with the families to educate them and help them to become successful homeowners and citizens. Ms. Oberle’s talk today was very fitting. She talked about the plans to start revitalizing the neighborhood around Kimberly Park Elementary School. Together, Stratford Rotary and Habitat can make a difference in that community.

June 26 – Dr. Larry Coble spoke to us today. Dr. Coble does leadership training workshops. He calls his program “Six Dimensions of Leadership”. The six dimensions are: 1.) Relationships and Trust (set a good example): admit mistakes, admit you don’t know everything, seek out feedback, small acts of kindness over time, and predictability. 2.) Effective Communication: keep ideas simple, address “their” needs, return phone calls within 24 hours, non verbal communication is 60%, the power is in listening! 3.) Decision Making: most effective decision makers make the “least decisions”, stay ahead of issues, make decisions that make the greatest return. 4.) Life Balance: constructive productivity/ destructive productivity. 5.) Reflection on Practice. 6.) Change; deal with people first/ change second. Thank you Larry for a great message

ROTARY FOUR WAY TEST:

Of the things we thing, say, and do…
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
