ANNOUNCEMENTS, NEW & INFORMATION………………

THE BOARD has approved a new member. See your mailed or emailed newsletter for details.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS……….The invitations for the Holiday Social will be in the mail soon, but go ahead and mark your calendars for Thursday, December 4, 2008. I hope everyone can attend. We always have a great time. The social will be at Forsyth Country Club this year.

RING THE BELLS……..It’s that time of year again. Stratford Rotary is signed up to ring the bells on Saturday, December 13, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We need people for the 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 slots. I will have the list at the meetings or you can call Margaret at 784-8667 to sign up.

IF YOU THINK YOU CAN’T HELP – THINK AGAIN…….Our partnership with Kimberly Park Elementary School is getting into full swing. Hayes Wauford is setting up tutoring sessions and reading to students, other members are starting to prepare for the holiday parties for the students at Kimberly Park. You can call Susan Raymer (774-8790) or Hayes Wauford (724-1721) if you want to help with either of these projects, but here is the good news, if you can’t help with either of these projects you can still help. Just as member Jonathan Locke! Jonathan couldn’t find the time to participate in on site projects so he made a project of his own. Jonathan started a drive for school supplies in his office. He donated free services for contributions to the supplies drive. Jonathan gave three big boxes of supplies and ergonomically correct book bags to the school. Way to go Jonathan. Maybe you can find your niche.

October 16 – Our thanks to Phil Archer, Director of Public Programs, Reynolda House, for a very interesting and informative program showing us our city from the past to the future. He talked about the exciting projects in the plans to preserve the past and enhance the future.

October 23 – What a great day. Stratford Rotary held its meeting at Kimberly Park School. We had presentations by the Kindergarten Class doing the Thumbs Up song showing their appreciation for what we have done for their school. The Ladybugs led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and a recitation about Autumn Leaves Come Raining Down and the third grade girls sang to us the Jamaican song No woman No Cry. What a great way to showcase the children we are here to help. After the students finished, Principal Amber Baker thanked us so much for all the things Stratford Rotary is doing to help the school and talked a little about the school and how they are working to improve test scores and build up the students.

October 30 – Today we had Bret Marchant, Manager of Technology and Economic Development at the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce, talk about the Chamber’s customized market research. This research is directed towards small businesses. The Chamber tries to help small businesses do research that they couldn’t afford to do on their own. They try to teach them how to make more informed decisions. They also show them where to go to find the information they need. The Chamber also shows companies the advantages of locating their business in our area.

ROTARY FOUR WAY TEST:

Of the things we thing, say, and do…
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
